Last night marked a first for our little warden family. I finished cooking dinner...one of Evan's favorites, chicken chimichangas and Mexican green rice. Evan had made his plate of food and was just sitting down when the dog started barking and a pair of headlights shined in our driveway. He went to answer the door and came back a few minutes later, grabbed his gear, and ran out the door. Our first dinner interrupted. Having talked to many warden wives, I'm aware that this is the norm...just part of the lifestyle! I'm sure it will get annoying after a while, but there was so much adrenaline that surged through the room...it was quite exciting!
The boys felt the energy change and it took me a few minutes to get them to settle. We sat down to finish our dinner and another vehicle pulled in the driveway. I went to answer the door with a half naked baby on one hip and a naked little boy holding my leg. A little different site for the hunters to see in the North Woods!!! :)
Love this post! You do a great job writing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a good job you have done setting this up!! You are so smart :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband was the one that shared your blog with me, and I am happy he did, its good to hear your stories and remember we are not alone :) We dont let our child answer the door, just for that reason. You never know who will be on the other side... :) thanks for sharing, A Warden's Wife from the sticks in Idaho. (not quite as remote as you but still 3 hours from any box store)
ReplyDeleteThat's so awesome!!! Good to hear from you all the way from Idaho! ....I hope to be able to share a lot of interesting stories!! :)
DeleteI just read your blog about entitlement and I have just ordered that book. I am again glad to hear someone else has the same struggles as me... sometimes I feel so alone. Because my husband both works and plays hard in the woods, he is home for the first time in 3 weeks literally. I cant wait to read the book!
DeleteIt's an easy way to feel when you're the one at home, Jessica!! I think so many of us can relate but it's not something that's talked about a lot. The book is absolutely amazing and will open your eyes to what things COULD be like...buy a big box of tissues!!!
